Carnival Imagination Photo Team Outing December 2017

In the middle of the busy cruise working schedule, it is hard to find the time for a team building. There are only several hours during the break that can be used for this thing. Crew tours are organized almost every month, but the timing is not suitable for some departments. Therefore, many of them arrange their own schedule with the help of shore excursion team.

During the last contract, my partner and I visited only two ports during the whole contract. Those ports were Ensenada, Mexico and Catalina Island,U.S. We only had the time out in Ensenada. We tried to find the tour options on the street of Ensenada, but the fee was too expensive for just the two of us. Plus, the timing was not suitable with our working schedule. We joined the crew tour organized by the shore excursion team, but it was canceled because there were not enough people that signed up.

Finally the chance came. Our photography team was doing good on the revenue at that time so our manager was in a good mood. Silviu and I suggested a tour for the whole team and he agreed. We did the tour that was canceled before. It’s usually hard to convince people. The precious break time is used for rest but this time everybody was in.

At the designated time, we gathered at the ports. It was in Ensenada, Mexico. We went to Valle de Guadalupe for a wine country tour. We visited L.A. Cetto, the oldest winery in Ensenada.

The guide welcomed us at the entrance. Then he showed us the distillery room, the equipment, and the storage. The storage room was big and chill with a lot of huge barrels of wine. After that,  he took us to the wine tasting room.

Firstly he taught us how to hold the glass wine. We should hold it at the stem of the glass not the body, because our body temperature will affect the taste of wine. Then, spin the glass to oxidize the wine. The movement will bring out the smell of the wine. The smell gives us the glimpse of the taste of wine.

After enjoying the smell of wine, time to taste it. The first gulp can be used to rinse the remaining of food we had before. Then on the next gulp we can feel the real taste of the wine. If it’s too sour, we can reduce the acidity by holding it inthe mouth and blow out some air like whistling.

We had cheese and olive to accompany the tasting. We bought some bottles of wine despite getting one free bottle each from the winery. The tour was soon finished. It was a short trip but spending time outside of the work together was surely exciting.
